I have been reading a lot of commentaries and other sources about the Message of 2 John.
I noticed a tendency of several to criticize the letter because “lack of quotable material (coupled with brevity of work),” (see https://bible.org/seriespage/2-john-introduction-argument-and-outline).
I think it good from time to time to review one’s theory of inspiration. See http://home.earthlink.net/~ronrhodes/Inspiration.html for a nice list and treatment of a lot of the major verses about the inspiration of the Bible. Note that the Bible is God’s word
Also, if you consider 2 Tim 3:16-17 and we know as a starting theory that “all scripture is profitable . . .”
Thus, I suggest, if we find that some scripture is not profitable, then perhaps it is because we don’t understand it.
The past few posts show the important part of aspect, time, and word order in understanding 2 John. I suggest that much of Bible study/exegesis is deficient because most interpreters miss this information.
A tentative statement of the message of 2 John is, Even though we have the promise of God’s grace, mercy and peace, we need to be diligent because false teachers can lead us astray and keep us from God’s full blessing. Furthermore, achieving God’s full blessing should be more important to us than our circumstances which might be full of rebellions and wars.#GreekBible#KoineGreek#VerbalAspect#BibleHistory#2John#New Testament Greek
